A letter from the council planning department arrived this morning concerning a nearby planning application. The bottom left-hand corner contained a small box and alongside it, 'Please tick if the addressee no longer lives here and return to sender.'

The letter was addressed to The Occupier
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

At least you get told! Hereabouts we have to rely on finding either the official notice tucked away in some newspaper or the (single) random A4 notice attached to something that may or may not be in proximity to the site in question, depending on whether the person concerned can find something to affix it to, and knows where the site in question is. The notice of outline planning permission being submitted to build a housing estate at the bottom of our gardens wasn't posted in our road, but in the one it joins, so it was word of mouth etc that got the news disseminated - and even then some missed it until there was an article some time later in the local rag.
