Well, I'm particularly fond of Debussy's and Ravel's works for solo piano, and the latter's String Quartet and Piano Trio, and I'm working my way into Faure's chamber works. Some of Poulenc's and Saint-Saens's chamber works, especially those for woodwind, are also well crafted and make for very pleasurable listening.

Then may I take this opportunity of welcoming you aboard a thread I initiated on modern French composers overlooked by the BBC and other institutions in this country, some time ago? As well as introducing several composers of the interwar years - those roughly contemporary with Messiaen - I have provided links to examples of their music found on Youtube.

Stanfordian’s latest classical choices suggest he is in and I like much French music and French sounding orchestras!

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
