        Someone/anyone, somewhere/anywhere, performing a Bob Simson Symphony.

          A few more dreams:

Britain launches an international social media and networking service along the lines of Facebook but with values traditionally associated with the BBC World Service. On computers generally, our industry aims to produce all basic components here. We decide to ask advice from the Nigerians on how to become self-sufficient in food staples and then follow through on that advice. We consider a flower hub to receive roses directly from Kenya. 80% of them travel from there to our supermarkets via The Netherlands which has three buildings that represent the largest footprint on earth. There is no reason why we shouldn't have four which are larger in total - at Prestwick, Spalding, Three Bridges and Rhoose.

It is agreed we need travelling Citizens Advice Bureaux along the lines of travelling libraries in rural areas to provide inexpensive advice for poorer people who are unable to afford legal fees. To encourage greater use of major footpaths, an extensive review is undertaken to ensure that there is a resting point at least every four miles. This, it says, should be in a building made of local building materials and provide tea and home made cakes, a wi-fi point, three bunk rooms, a safety adviser, a small stage for occasional music events, comedy, informative talks and poetry readings, the telephone number of a nearby rucksack delivery service and details of local traditions, eg morris dancing and cheese rolling.

There is a national consultation on broadening national iconography so it includes curry houses, sheep on coastal cliffs, lighter aspects of wartime cinematography, early British West Indian pioneers and tin mines with the wireless being a new key historical symbol of these islands' identity. The design of wind farms is changed so that each component is as attractive as a normal windmill. Every duck pond is required by law to have a feeder containing appropriate duck food. And council taxes are increased by one third for all households which have paved over their gardens and reduced by a third for those who can prove that they sustain a significant range of wildlife between September and April.

"mit" requires the dative, i.e. mit den Berliner Philharmonikern.

Someone hand me my coat, pls.

OK, but will that make them sound any better?

Ah, yes; 12 symphonies equal only to one another.

                  (Actually, that's not fair).

Anyway, here's some reviews of recordings of them - http://www.gramophone.co.uk/features...e-lloyd-at-100 . Excellent as the much missed Malcolm MacDonald was, I'd struggle to share his largely positive views of those that he reviews (most of them). Much has been made of the possible adverse impact of the composer's terrifying wartime experiences upon his music but these obviously don't apply to what he wrote before they occurred. Yes, there's room for all manner of music - and there are some fine things in this symphonic cycle (not least the composer's skill as an orchestrator that never lets him down) - but (to return to the thread topic) The Things That Dreams Are Made Of simply don't for me, include a boxed set of the dozen Lloyd symphonies even if played by BPO under Rattle. Sorry.

I think that you need a "p" but otherwise yes, entirely agreed!
