Hmmm - not so sure about duvets. Having always experienced an acute and probably atavistic anxiety about having my vital statistics attacked by some creature of the night worming its insidious way in and under from the end of the bed, I have to say I've stuck to blankets, which are relatively easily washable and can be added or subtracted according to season, difficult though they have now become to acquire. Someone will of course say it is possible to tuck duvets in, but I really have no wish to have my legs at a higher level than my head.

Even serial apologists can place bedsheets between themselves and duvets if so they wish, thereby obviating such a risk!

I tuck the end of my duvet under the mattress, not from any fear of creepy crawlies, but genuine terror of getting cold feet! The mattress, being heavier than the duvet, crushes it down so that my legs are no higher than they would be anyway. And thus I ensure that whatever my dreams are made of (or indeed "on") I can enjoy them undisturbed.

Get yourself a double bed size duvet, Ferret, then you'll have loads to tuck in around you. Might not be any easier to get it into its cover, but you'd get a set with two pillow cases too, which might be just what you need!

No, no, no - you've got it all wrong. The bed sheet goes UNDER the mattress and is then part-folded on TOP of the duvet. That way the duvet is nicely tucked in, your feet won't stick out and your legs are on the same level with your head. There are duvets in various TOG ratings, from "summer" to "autumn" and "winter". You can of course combine summer and autumn duvets to make the perfect winter duvet. And the hollow fibre ones are all easily machine-washable.

Get yourself a double bed size duvet, Ferret, then you'll have loads to tuck in around you. Might not be any easier to get it into its cover, but you'd get a set with two pillow cases too, which might be just what you need!

Getting a duvet into its cover hasn't ever really been a problem for me.

It's finding my way out where the difficulties lie!

Why/how so? The appearance, constitution and function of duvet are not changed in any way by the laying of a sheet beneath it.

Just choose an appropriate size to suit you and give it a short time in the tumble dryer after you've washed it and that should shake it all about sufficiently!

You might have to pop over sur le continent to get them, but single beds and bedding are a bit wider than the British variety, so they might suit.
