    Finding playlists

Will somebody please explain to this old duffer how to navigate the website to find out the title of the Liszt piece being played at 8.35 this morning.

I've been going round in circles.

    Thank you.

One way is to bookmark this page http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/programm...ules/this_week

From here you can see the days and the programmes at a glance. Pick your programme, click on the title and - if the play list is there - you should be able to scroll down to the piece you're looking for. Possibly Franz Liszt

3 Concert studies for piano (S.144), no.3 in D flat major; Un Sospiro

    Performer: André Watts.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      EMI.
The playlist offered at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b086tbyw gives the approximate timings from the start of the programme. The programme started at 06:30 today, so you need to look around 2 hours 5 minutes in.

But good luck Rover_KE with actually trying to find out the specific recording that was played because many of the companies that are making the Classic FM-Lite Radio 3 programmes (Breakfast, inEssential Classics) are too lazy to give this. So you may go out and get hold of a copy of the work only to be sadly disappointed.

Christmas has come, Anastasius … Today's playlist is here, complete with record details:

Petroc Trelawny presents the breakfast show, with a special twist to Bach before Seven.

... if this be a wish, I am happy to concur with a desire for "more smart people", in both senses.

As for "less smart things" - surely we want (perhaps) "fewer smart things" rather than things that are less smart?

It's perhaps also helpful to know that you will get different results depending on how you try to find the music clip. If you use a browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, you'll probably see a picture like the one above if you select the programme and click on it. If you go straight to the square box around two hours in you'll see a pop up with some details of the piece being played. I can't show this, as my screen grab software won't grab pop ups like that. You probably want the one after the one shown in the image.

If you do this in iPlayer you most probably won't see the (helpful) squares which indicate starts/ends of pieces being payed. The interface might also depend on which system you use to access the programme - iPhone, Android etc., but in the browsers mentioned, on a laptop or desktop, the interface should look like the one above.

Re "smart" - are we allowed to use that term now? I thought it had been taken over by branding, as in "smart water"!

Very true. But why do you need it? You only have to highlight the title eg Praetorius: Dances From Terpsichore. Naxos. 11, drag and drop it into your search box and it takes you (via your search engine) straight to the site where there are all the details. Now, given that 99% of the listeners will not wish to buy it at all, nor wish to know what the CD number is, it seems reasonable for those who do to carry out the minimal search to find the details they (presumably) need.

And the playlist looks a vast improvement on five years ago. Admittedly, I don't listen to Breakfast, but I don't fancy a stream of diverse tracks lasting 5-6 mins on average. Twenty to thirty minutes might suit me - but I don't expect the programme to change to please me And if you aren't listening, you won't need the CD numbers either.

It does seem a little odd though that they go to the length of providing what I assume is the track number (the 11 in this example), which is of no real significance at all; the CD number would be much more helpful.

Can you not take a grab of the complete screen and crop it?

Yes, very odd. But not a huge inconvenience? Though it may be that the CD number has to be entered manually, and the rest is automated (like the playlist)?

Looks like you managed it. I'm on a machine running Mountain Lion, and every time I move the mouse away from the browser the pop up disappears.

I suppose if I had key strokes to grab the screen your approach would work, but I have to activate Grab, and then select one of the Screen, the Window or a Selected area. I have gone back to this, but it still doesn't work.

Well done that you managed it. I am assuming for the moment that it's the differences in our systems which mean that I can't, but if there's something else I could do I would welcome someone telling me.
