How many times have you nominated her? You can find the form here: https://www.gov.uk/government/public...ational-honour

At least she got a CBE.

And why no knighthood for Andrew McGregor?!

            .

... my mother was very snitty about any honours I might obtain in my adult life. She thought a CH or an OM wd be all right, not too bling or m'as-tu vu, but anything lower really rather vulgar.

Myself, I thought nothing less than a viscountcy would do...

Happily I have ended up with nothing at all

But not one taken by the Bishop, I see!

                .

... always something not quite right with ecclesiastics taking knightly orders anyway, I think - ultimately a conflict between the roles of the priestly and warrior castes...

But it is apparently ok for folks like this &*%$ to get one

The boss of the Bristol Port Company is among those receiving New Year Honours.

BUT great to see Jonathan Stephens (amongst others) getting well earner recognition

                    Lord Calvin agrees with you.

Lord Calvin thought the Bishops should not sit
As Peers of Parliament. And argued it!
In spite of which, for years, and years, and years
They went on sitting with their fellow Peers.

What, for services to sitting around listening to CDs? We'd all be eligible for that!

The temptation to disguise myself as the queen and let the arm holding the sword accidentally slip during the investiture ceremony would be too great for me!

As opposed to fiddling employees out of their pensions, making a mockery of a parliamentary enquiry, not paying taxes and retiring to his third yacht to enjoy the fruits of his ill-gotten gains...?

Or cutting the prime minister's hair?

Forget the comfy, tired and stale old white bourgeois UK 'liberals' who refuse a State honour out of some wholly outdated political 'principle' ... they could be the exact mirror-image of The League of Empire Loyalists?

Great to see the initially very under-privileged Mo Farah getting the honour he so richly deserves and also Annie Zaidi the Muslim lady football coach who has succeeded in an overwhelmingly man's world.

Many congratulations to both Mo and Annie for overcoming incredible odds stacked against them ... heartwarming!.

                            Happy Hogmanay!

Very pleased that the great actress Patricia Routledge is now a Dame. I do wonder though if some people given an MBE think "blimey, is that all they think I'm worth?"

No swords are used when a clergy person is knighted.
