Is it my imagination, or is there a fashion for spraying Christmas trees white? I notice that the one outside 10 Downing Street is sugared with fake snow. And during a trip to France last week, all the municipal Christmas trees I saw were completely white. This is a shame in my opinion; a green and aromatic Christmas Tree was very much the tradition started (allegedly) by Prince Albert...and definitely part of my childhood. In Norway, where genuine snow falls on fir trees, it sits atop the branches and from beneath there is plenty of green to be seen.
Dreaming of a White Christmas Tree?

Trust 'good old blighty' to make the tackiness of Christmas even more tacky.

I have a lovely six foot green tree delivered by a man with a van that has a bicycle on its roof. My decorations are in many colours and people are surprised by its artistry. I think it works because I imagine how Jackson Pollock would decorate his tree. It has none of the order I try to apply to words and is full of shapes suggesting some capacity for movement.
