Caliban, does that mean "Things about which we speak?" When I said my Latin was getting rusty, I didnt mean a light surface coating of iron oxide, i meant a near dissolution of intelligible substance. And it wasnt very good in the first place.

I had to pass Latin O level to get a second language certificate to get into university. It was a pain, but I got it at the third attempt. Despite the exasperation I felt at the time, I am now glad I made the effort, the knowledge has been more useful to me than I anticipated. Latin names of plants, for one thing.

I dunno all this Latin stuff but what I do know is that dipping in at odd times to Radio 3 and listening to the new intake of female presenters....I'm sure they are lovely people but their voices, intonation and presentation style just simply grate.

The pronunciation is 'At all'. Not 'At taw'. 'I told you so'. Not 'I toad you so..ow'.

But hey, what do I know. These computers and stuff...never catch on.

The 'res' in this instance, being the title of the programme....
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
