    BBC News .... and wittering

Probably good news that the BBC News channel is going to continue.

OTOH, there is an awful lot of wittering right now as David Cameron steps down, and presumably Theresa May will set off soon. What could be said in one or two minutes in a deferred news item has been turned into a rather lenthy "live" programme with an awful lot of speculative wittering.

Wby do we put up with this?

We don't if we don't watch it - and I'm not watching it!

They think people like it/need it/want it.

Or they're trying to fill the time slot.

Exactly! Like newspapers, they have a certain amount of column inches/time to fill. The media has to fill this with SOMETHING.

The floods in Cockermouth. They had reporters standing in the flood water for days waiting for something to happen. When it didn't, they simply repeated themselves for days.

It was on when I came in, but I've now turned it off.
People get paid for filling in with such drivel.

Those who lie above the threshold this year are also said to include Graham Norton, Huw Edwards, Fiona Bruce, John Humphrys and Jeremy Vine.
from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...ry-disclosure/ the threshoild being £450k.

I'm not either. Have had no radio or TV news on since the referendum; I get what I want from the BBC news site on my iPad and my daily Times download (and I'm hardly reading that either!).

Listen to some music ,is my advice.

                Sorry, would be my advice.

Being a Bozo I've watched a fair bit of it and it was very well done IMVVHO ... Cameron left with humour and dignity and a very good first speech by Mrs May ....

I was advised by a psychiatrist many years ago that refraining from watching news and reading newspapers might help to improve my mental health.
                      He was right.

Here we call that the CNN effect, after the cable news network that pioneered wall to wall unfiltered real time news. The idea is to generate an endless cliffhanger effect that keeps the rears in the settee and the ears open for commercials.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

I rarely watch the news anymore and haven't read a newspaper for almost 10 years. I think ER is right about the improvement in mental health. So many news stories are those relating to some disaster or other which we are helpless to do anything about and thus feel even worse about. I used to turn C4 News on while having my evening meal but read a book instead now. I feel much better for it.

I find time digests itself at far too fast a rate, with or without music!

In my case usually without I've been looking forward to retirement for years in order to find time for all the serious listening I want to do, and for all the stockpiled discs on my shelves (and just about every flat surface in my listening room). Just hope my allocation of undigested time is adequate...
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
