I rather liked the idea of the Prince identifying Cinderella by her ability to complete a tune, and I'd have liked to hear the coloratura (sic) by which her stepsisters gave themselves away.

But it did all sound so old-fashioned.

...Hearing little Alma on this morning's Today speaking of premiering her opera in Vienna brought nothing more immediately to mind than the mannerisms of a closeted upper-class child as portrayed in the Forsyte Saga and similar dramas of that past era. Or do I have a problem?

I did find something slightly chilling in that adultified child voice. I hope as she matures she can find her own voice, both literally and muscially.

Not sure, Jean. She was playing the piano at 2 and the violin at 3. She had written parts of two operas by 8. She doesn't have a mobile phone or an i-pad - the one thing she and I have in common!!! She doesn't use computers and she doesn't watch television. I find her speaking voice fascinating. I could have sworn I heard a Welsh lilt. However, here she is at 8 - much as she is at 11 - and I now think I agree with the top comment: "She sounds a lot like Audrey Hepburn when she speaks!" Which is as remarkable as everything else.

I'm guessing that whether she writes like Mozart, Schubert or Stockhausen, she is rather more talented than the "average" Pop Idol or X Factor "celebrity".
As long as she's happy, and remains so, that's all to the good.
