Yes, I am at one with all the above thoughts, but does anyone have any information about the murderer - who is, unusually because they usually die - in custody?

You can find things by looking on the internet. I think it better to leave this thread for tributes.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

            Truly shocking.

I completely agree with your comments John.

Any hint of a reason for this awfulness?

As Frenchie commented a few messages back, please stick to tributes here. Plenty of speculation on motives/rationale elsewhere in the Internet.

The murderer is reported to have shouted Put Britain First or Britain First .

I should look at Twitter and the Spectator blog .

Yes, by all means do that; in the meantime, though (and don't take this amiss), please take note of FF's #18 and Bryn's #22, out of due respect for Jo Cox herself. Thank you in advance for that.

Dreadful, tragic news. I found myself listening to it as it came in on the car radio. PM played the whole of her maiden speech at the end of the programme. The tributes from her colleagues on all sides....a remarkable person. Her husband, her children....just beyond words.

Very sad. I've only just seen this and wondered what it was about, Hard to concentrate now.

Shocked and saddened by this news.

This has really affected me. I could not sleep well last night. Sow hate and mistrust and you may reap the whirlwind.

Exactly excellent article on the point by Polly Toynbee in the Guardian today .
