I guess you were in another country in the 1990's then

If you look at the UKIP poster (the one they will try and hide now, you know the one here http://indy100.independent.co.uk/ima...27-1a0i9s8.jpg) you can see where the link and inspiration comes from.
Which ISN'T saying that everyone who wants to leave the EU is a racist bigot BUT if you dress up like a policeman don't be surprised when people call you "officer"

I’m proposing (no doubt to some people’s dismay), and against my better judgement, to reopen the thread on the referendum debate (to be retitled: ‘Referendum’) tomorrow. I would ask you to focus on the options: which issues weigh with you when coming to a decision, why you regard them as more important than others &c.

I spent most of yesterday sorting out complaints behind the scenes and justifying moderation decisions: I don’t want to have to do that for the rest of the week because anger substitutes for argument when people are posting. And please don’t resort to bad language or attack other members because of the views they express: it doesn’t help. Not easy, but please try.

For now, can we leave the matter for another place?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

For that I would be most grateful, thanks ff.

For one thing, for all the knockabout, there ain't much of a debate of any kind that's helping me finally come to a decision other than here.

If people (including me) could keep their outrage to themselves, it's only for another 5 days. After that, there'll be every reason to shut us up.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Agreed wholeheartedly - except for that last bit it in the unlikely event of a dead heat, peut-ĂȘtre...

Amazing news that the Democrats are holding a sit-in in the House of Representatives, demanding a vote on two mild gun control motions. Also Amazing that it's being refused by the Speaker (a Republican, I think)

I wonder what will happen if Trump gets elected President. Back to Wild West conditions, no doubt.

And that's just in the House of Representatives!

But this is as likely as Farage becoming prime minister last year, if not even less so - of course the media are making a big song and dance about it because Trump makes such good copy, but even if he weren't an egomaniacal lying buffoon, his strategy of relying almost completely on social media, public meetings and soundbites, which might have worked in the primaries, isn't going to pan out so well nationally - if the Republicans actually allow him to run as their candidate. So no worries there I think. Which means the USA will get a Republican president anyway, though for some reason she's running for the Democrats.
