And what about that Prost/Senna style collision by both Mercs in Catalunya last time out? Helping 18-year old Verstappen to his first win!

After a dull coupla years five or six cars have a chance now, give it another go...!
Life wouldn't be life without the Monaco Grand Prix. Champagne breakfast optional.
I did. And yes, thanks to the rain, a bit of a shake-up... And yes the ups and downs of an 18 year old winning one race and then wiping the side off his car at the next... But I still feel it's become too much of a precious, hi-tech circus, and all the aerodynamic finessing has spoilt the cars and the racing...

    .

NB I became a big fan in the 70s... and agree about the Monaco event - for a number of years I holed up in the Rascasse restaurant and watched the practice sessions (the race only once, but there's very little difference apart from infinitely greater numbers of annoying "socialites"...). I loved being so close to the cars. Here are my pics from the Rascasse balcony of Messrs Schumacher & Coulthard (the latter won the 2000 race I attended).

So I am not deaf to the potential charms of the world of F1... (I prefer going to lower Formula racing these days - more 'real' in many ways)

    Nonsense!

    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

But surely that's the worst of all - what's the point of a "race" where the track is so narrow and the cars so wide that overtaking is almost impossible?

That's why I loved being there for the Thursday practice sessions

The taste for single-seat racing cars didn't leave me during puberty, as it left your good self

          It's a metaphor for politics ?

Couple of others seem to think F1 is currently not all it's cracked up to be...

Triple world champion Lewis Hamilton says Formula 1 is broken as it struggles to finalise rules for the next two years.

Sorry - what is "hanging out washing" supposed to be "cracked up to be" in the first place? Isn't it like emptying the bins - an unpleasant but necessary chore? Has anyone ever suggested that hanging out the washing is a wonderful experience?

And does "eating out" mean "eating outside" - in which case I agree that, in this country at least, it isn't at all the joyous experience that many people have claimed (from Ann in the Famous Five onwards). Outdoor performances are even worse.

But if it means "eating away from home" (preferably with friends at a good restaurant) then it's always lived up to the crack in my experience.

And in any case hasn't anyone heard of tumble driers?

Well yes, but they can be very expensive to run.
