    Rebranding channels

I noted that the former R7 channel has been rebranded as Radio 4 extra. Assuming that R3 could also acquire an extra channel, which of the other channels would you rebrand (for an extra R3 - though feel free do do more...), and what programme content would you have on it?

Perhaps R2 could spare a few hours a day for R3 extra [in the afternoon perhaps]. Some of the lightest, chattiest programmes could move to this slot, making room for more 'meaty' items for R3.

I think Radio 3 should be renamed 'CFM Heavy' and CFM renamed 'Radio 3 Light'.

"Breakfast" should be moved to Radio 2 Xtra and Radio 3 should have a quality morning programme instead.

Oh come on now, don't we need some new internet stations?

Radio 3rdProgramme: a selection of quality shows from the R3 archives.

Radio 3Anorak: All dry, all the time. Nothing too obscure or pedantic!

Radio 3Chat: a community-style talk radio station for old people and young weirdoes.

Radio3ABCs: fun, lighthearted, introductory programming for people with limited attention spans who don't know jack about classical music.

Radio 3XtraLong: No talk, no trails, and no pieces shorter than one hour. Great in the morning!

R3-marketing - especially for our transatlantic cousins who believe culture is best sold like baked beans + all is in the label.

You mean a sort of aural version of these message boards?

Exactly! I have it on good authority their flagship programme will be "Stormy Weather", hosted by the one-and-only Salymap. Come on now, you know you'd tune in!

Radio 3Chat, however, is not to be confused with another similar station, Radio 3Whinge, which will provide disgruntled listeners everywhere with the unique opportunity to phone in as they're listening to regular Radio 3 and complain about how dire it is in real time, 24/7. Here's an excerpt from the press release...

"As you all know, we here at Radio 3 sincerely, utterly, and profoundly care SO FRIGHTFULLY MUCH about the views of our engaged and opinionated audience. By providing curmudgeons everywhere with this unprecedented opportunity to endlessly moan, vent spleen, and have their say, Radio 3Whinge at last represents a medium for the disenfranchised R3 listener to truly be heard. Whether you hate Breakfast or just feel like sounding off about how R3 management should be chucked into the sea, Radio 3Whinge will feature something for everybody."

                Not bad, huh?

Thanks Euda, I don't really need help from abroad. Stormy Weather,[originally started by me], Virtual Gardens and 'Classic' Detective stories all run to over 100 posts each. And it's not my doing, it's other people who are left to express their views without being harangued. And I post on MUSIC too as that's why I'm here.

But it's So unEnglish to boast, so back to bed forthis old girl.

No offense intended; it's just that I can't think of anyone we'd all like to hear more! All about the ratings, you know. (And I would suggest you do a show about your musical memories, but then I know you'd REALLY want to pound me...) Er, better quit while I'm behind.

                    Cheers! ~E.

Maybe we should start some, though we'd probably have the kind of problems that these people have ... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/t...ne-review.html

Saly, I'm proud to be a weirdo - but unfortunately can no longer claim to be young

                            I'd go for
Radio 3XtraXtraXtra Long : a nonstop sequence of La Monte Young pieces

Re. offense/offence: the person concerned appears to spend some of his or her time in New York City, so let's not criticize his or her linguistic practises (or practices). There's plenty of space for all of us on the pavement (or sidewalk)
