It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
It's the tallest clock-tower in the world, I believe, and I guess singing from the top might involve super-human feats, such as climbing to the top, not being out-of-breath, overcoming vertigo and having the vocal carrying-power of 100 or so on the Pavarotti scale.
I spent the rest of the day in Palmerston Park at our first May Day festival in recent years. Music was good.A good crowd attended including some rather politically-active students and a fair sprinkling of scarlet on the green.
