I am very much in favour of occasional "Total Immersion" programming on R3, and in general (depending on the composer) I find these educational, enjoyable, and encourage me to listen more than usual. They are like a sort of festival. I have not been able to listen to any of the Shakespeare programming and so cannot comment on that.

The venom and hair splitting on display in this thread appears to be much ado about nothing

Indeed; more of it than one could shake a spear at, one might say. Should some members who habitually do this be Bard? Never mind; as you don't like it any more than I do, it's best to remember that, as it is undoubtedly much ado about nothing and indeed something of a tempest in a teacup, all's well that ends well. It's not so hard to do; when there's a Will, there's a way. Let us move on and prosper, oh!

Nice tease by Mr Skelly on Monday's 'Breakfast' (just listened to) - having played a piece by Rheinberger, he asked if anyone knew any other composers from Liechtenstein...

... "you never know, we could have a whole day devoted to them"

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Oh, dear. So we won't be hearing much from him from now on

Everything depends on who has a sense of humour. I was sure that RW absolutly hated the Dead Ringers Radio 3 sketch - even though it was about 50 years out of date - and he didn't want the station to be the butt of that kind of joke. Which is why we ended up with the Ed Reardon style instead
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I have, but was delighted to be reminded of it! - and history rather repeated itself yesterday on last evening's edition of the very same Mr Mitchell's The Unbelievable Truth on BBC R4 in which not only there were more mentions of "vye-olas" (including a trio of "vye-ola" jokes) than you could shake a Tourte at but also the correct English pronunciation of the poor unfortunate instrument was then called into question only for the conclusion to be that it was indeed "vye-olas"!

                    or even a Tertis perhaps?
A friend rang a venue recently to enquire about an item of lost property and initially met a block with - 'we don't have a room of that name' - which was overcome when the member of staff in a fit of inspiration said 'oh you mean the Hayden room'...

Sure, but I was thinking of something more akin to a stick as in the phrase "more ***s than one could shake a stick at"!
