    Parliamentary Muppet Show?

From today's Times, p4 "The Prime Minister is being urged to remember that his main audience [in Parliamentary Question Time] is television viewers, and to address his remarks to them, rather than MPs." (Sic.)

If we're the audience, shouldn't we be able to submit the questions?

Thus the Mother of Parliaments gloriously reinvents itself

The sound-bite has been around for some time - even before Blair made it the substance of political discourse. Even Maggie wasn't above using it - even if she didn't really understand the ones she was fed, & they were dropped rather clunkily into her speeches.

I think some pleasure could be derived from matching leading politicians to Muppets, starting with Chris Huhne as Sam the American Eagle (serious expression, earnest intent) and Nick Clegg as Kermit (he thinks he has influence, but clearly lacks any).

Such a pity Spitting Image isn't around any more - they would have a field-day! Remember the depiction of the two Davids when the Social Democrats & Liberals merged? The same idea would be exactly right for the current Con-Dem coalition.

Oh absolutely. I'd love to see Spitting Image laying into this lot!

Thank goodness for "Private Eye" though- the "New Coalition Academy" feature that runs in every issue is a brilliant satire on the whole sorry affair.
