My teenage years, 1962 – 1970, coincided exactly with the Beatles era. I can still sing along to most of the songs and will never tire of them. One Sunday a few years ago we went to his garden in Coleshill, Oxon, which he used to open for charity under the National Garden Scheme. When we arrived the great man was sitting by the front gate taking the entrance money. I was so happy to be able to thank him personally for making the music of my youth.

I don't think it's either - George Martin was involved in very many projects aside from the Beatles, some of which (Charlie Drake???) do have a certain whiff about them.

I didn't mention the Beatles.
I assumed MrGongGong was referring to George Martin's work generally.

My Grandfather was stationed at Edinburgh Castle for a period in the 60's and one night, Charlie Drake came to pay a visit. Alas, he was too late for the last admission but the Sergeant on duty recognised him and said 'It's ok, Charlie, we'll bend the rules for you this once'. C D was invited to the guard house where he spent two hours entertaining the off-duty soldiers. My Grandfather said he's never laughed so much in his life.

The next day, 5 cases of beer were delivered to the mess, courtesy of CD who left a note saying he'd had a great time.
