Well, the English (and the British in general) became infected by that attitude. How else can one explain the evacuations of Gallipoli or Dunkirk?

      It's Just Not Cricket

Not for the first time, Sky Sports offer viewers a close up of Eoin Morgan, Captain of the England One day Cricket team with his mouth clamped shut during the playing of the British National Anthem.

Can it be that he doesn't know the words?

Or is it that, being Irish, he has no respect for the company that he has been invited to lead?

Morgan has already played for The Irish Republic so IMHO he should not be eligible to represent another national side.
He is being paid in sterling - both by the ECB and Middlesex County Cricket Club.

Yesterday, he scored no runs, made some appalling captaincy decisions and did not distinguish himself in the field.

A liability cricket-wise and, by his own actions, blatantly anti-British.

      Hornspieler

BTW I submitted this new thread yesterday, but it did not appear. Can anyone suggest why?

It did appear and received numerous responses but then it disappeared some time earlier this morning; I have no idea why, so only FF will presumably be able to advise.

Someone suggested it was political so I guess that's why it was wiped.

If this is truly so, then we should be ashamed of ourselves for allowing discussion to be stifled to this extent. What about the inevitable discussions about the relevance of a patriotic Last Night of the Proms 2016 - will that be pulled as well because it's 'political'? I can't believe it will.

              Thank you for that information.

Dare one hope that some kind soul will restore the original post (with its replies) or explain why it was removed (including any evidence of its existence on my profile) without informing me?

I do not know, I'm afraid. It's not even disappeared into the Room 101 known as the Diversions thread, nor has it been merely "closed".

There was a post from teamsaint, to which I'd posted a reply. Both have disappeared...... they were not political in any way.

No. And I said nothing 'political', but someone commented that any discussion about the Royal Family is now regarded as 'political'. and we were definitely talking about God Save The Queen (although that's not about the Royal Family, of course)

I think all this (if it's actually true) would be laughable. But I'm more annoyed that no-one has explained what has occurred.

Indeed..... I find it anomalous that discussion about the royal family could be regarded as political, when they themselves are supposed to be non-political. Although we all know that in reality they are very political...

Has this thread gone bonkers, or what?

I think that I am entitled to know:

1: Who was it who removed my first thread ("Just Not Cricket" ) from these message boards?

2:The reason for removing the opening subject (and the replies received from other message boarders)

3: Why I was not afforded the courtesy of a message informing me of the decision to remove the discussion?

4: How many hosts are there, who appoints them and what powers do they have to legislate on a fellow message boarder's posts?

Not a lot to ask. but the silence from those in control is deafening.

HS, I undertand you have now been given an explanation and apology by PM (private message, I mean)? I gathered that there was a bit of late-night good intention followed by early morning confusion. I will provide answers to all your questions, if you wish, though this does not seem the appropriate place. I apologise for not even having checked on your thread as I assumed that, with such credentials as your own, it would be impeccable.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
