Loved salymap's many anecdotes about her experiences in the London music publishing business and especially on seeing Vaughan Williams, a young Colin Davis (still in uniform, if I remember correctly), Furtwangler conduct Brahms in 1948 and Sir Malcolm Sargent many times in the Albert Hall.
We exchanged messages a few times particularly after the unexpected passing of Chris Newman which greatly saddened us both.
RIP Pam

I echo everything that has been said already. Salymap's interesting and often amusing reminisces of past times were indeed matched by her 'warm and gentle' nature, though clearly she was nobody's fool either! That was a lovely and endearing mix.
Terribly sad news. I'm sorry I never knew her except via this forum, but her posts were so full of fascinating things, always expressed with affection and calm. RIP.

Exactly so - she was a link to a bygone era, with tales of music publishing and concert-going in the London of yore, leavened with a mischievous sense of humour
Very sadly missed
One of those types of posts we will never see again. RIP Pam(salymap)

Very sad news indeed.
I managed to visit Pam in Sidcup a few years ago, for a cup of afternoon tea, and found her very warm and engaging, with a 'wicked wit' , but also a sadness that came from loneliness.
As I was leaving, she very generously gave me several very interesting music books which she could no longer find space for, including a pre-publication proof of an Eric Fenby book on Delius (not 'Delius as I knew him') of which I had been previously unaware.
RIP Pam Snell / salymap
I am really very saddened to hear this news.
Salymap's postings always made one feel she was actually talking with you....
We'll all miss her, I know. Thank you Salymap, for all the knowledge, fun, friendliness and warmth that you gave to this forum.
