Explained by scb: another sense of the word cipher is 0 (naught/nought/zero).
? The Wound Dresser (who bound injured soldiers' wounds) by John Adams
No, this Adam is bound in another way, and for another reason.
The Wilis in Giselle by Adolphe Adam
        Yes.

No; see my comment in #2820.
One composer (solved); two with musical connections.

Hints given in original question (to begin at the beginning) and later (4000 years).

... good hint - except : if the world was created c 23 October 4004 BC - then it's more like 6021 years...

                      We've got there!

Just Adam (well, we had Just William, so.....)

Adam Zero (Bliss): zero is one of the meanings of the word cipher
Adam lay y-bounden, bounden in a bond (4000 winters thought he not too long); the original (begin at the beginning)
Adolphe Adam, composer of Giselle, which features the Wilis, both on stage and in its (sub)title.

A bit of a joint effort, but scb got there first, so needs to get busy.

Yes, but in the carol we have the words: four thousand winters thought he not too long!

Sorry, I was ignorant of the words of the carol

This B might lead to a night at the opera with Turandot and Prometheus.

                              Liszt aside...........

                              Bantock wrote "Prometheus Unbound".

This is probably as irrelevant to this question as HTML, Ian Fleming and Angels were to the last one.

On balance, even I decided to rule those out.

You are correct that Bantock is not relevant.
