But I'd still like to hear why you mentioned it.
A composer called George Walker wrote something called Lilacs so perhaps there is a flora link!

      .

... I have no interest in Mr Scruton. Violet Gordon-Woodhouse was a marvellous personage. I ca'n't think his opera will last -

Ah well, I think by including that link that you have found how Violet, the opera, links the two names in clue one.

You, though, cloughie, found the start of this trail.

        Alas, the Walker isn't George.

              What Ms link:

              1. Scruton and Douglas-Home
              2. Bray and Walker
              3. Anderson and Dikshitar?

(There will be complaints like the one I did for U a while ago)
... your Anderson isn't a Waverley by any chance?

                As in shelter?

                Sadly not.

(Perhaps it was Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura who had you thinking along those lines)

                  .

... I could probably work out a Madras connection between Anderson and Dikshitar, but not musical, and not evidently related to the others.

                  I'm off to Tel Aviv.

                  See you later....

                    Stay in touch.

If you have been to Israel before, you will be able to advise us how it has changed since leaving Eurovision.

No one has mentioned Lynn Anderson yet.

"I beg your pardon; I never promised you a rose garden".

It isn't her either - but arguably there are a few garden implements.

Are all the paired names in each clue the names of composers and writers whose work they have used?

Each of the remaining four people is a composer and/or a writer.

                          Mainly composers.

Sadly no line from Tel Aviv but then we were told that the jury would be in Jerusalem.

The search might be on for a female Walker if that is of any assistance.
