Serves you right for setting such a toothache of an association!

At the risk of making a spacious statement - I was surprised when the topic and composers popped up twice in other Forum Threads (neither by me) and the AA connection wasn't made.

But no point my being down in the mouth about it - just consider it me filling in between V and the next puzzle!

Indeed congratulations to Flay for perseverance and success.
Busy here, as forecast, and shirking from commenting till just now on the Choral Evensong thread; I had been working on an x, y, z, and a question (yes, cleverly combining all four letters!) in case I was called upon, but honours fall to Flay.

But what is the 'signpost' connection?

(I'm off for a few days in north Norfolk next week: binoculars and bird book at the ready! The forecast looks good.)

"Wandelweiser" is a German word for "signpost"

Not mentioned in the Wiki Wandelweiser article, but I did wonder what it meant; not sufficiently to bother to find out, though.

Flay is enjoying the fine weather and having a walking weekend, but I have his permission to set the next puzzle if we want to keep the momentum going.
But I'm out tonight (Minster Eucharist then a concert) and away after that with probable only intermittent internet access till Thursday evening (but he knows the answer(s)), so please say if you'd rather wait till he's back for normal service to resume with his next conundrum.

                            OK!

We're allowed to skip over x, y, and z, but they are worth keeping in mind; however, it's three occurrences of an a that I'm after.

A daughter in Mycenae plans on using one in her revenge.
A son in Chester, though quite why is a mystery, puts his to good use after hearing the weather forecast.
For an Essex man, however, its use is not sufficient punishment in Nottingham's opinion.

Put these three together and you will see why x, y, and z are pointers to the answer.

Another clue just before I head off out of internet reach (hoping for some in the hotel tonight).

The characters who mention the a word appear in operas, but the mystery lad is more likely to be seen in a church or school hall than on the operatic stage.
