    This is tricky.

I am minded to say Flay next for effort - and getting several pieces.

But I am happy for you Pulcinella as you also got several pieces and the final part, Flay and Caliban who got the first part to decide among yourselves.

    Hah!

Would love to stay to discuss further but I have got to wash my hair.

occurs when the radiation carries enough energy to remove an electron from an atom or molecule.

The dividing line between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum falls in the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum.

Henry Cowell's modernists were Ultra modernists.

The female Canadian composer in need of a bow was Violet Archer.

And the angel of the European seventh symphony was Rautavaara's Angel of Light.

Excitation was mentioned in the clue.

Varese's Ionization/Ionisation was the work implied in the part of the clue in brackets.

And the answer is indeed Ultraviolet light.
I think we were thrown by the rejection of Ultra!

Yes indeed - that was all part of the plan.

          Shall I jump in with a V?
Sorry if that's being presumptuous, Flay and others.
This one really should be easy!

One Otto was on holiday, and another Otto was roaming around the trees and some water, while Franz was also travelling around nearby but looking at different trees and water.
What V do they have in common?

I get it now. But to be fair, on AA the answer to the various parts would usually be the same word. If it is to be like this then we need to be warned.

I've even had to listen to Stuart Sharpe's (who?) Angel Symphony to try to find a non-existent common U

Thanks for doing the V, Pulcie

I still don't get the 'close to a rhythmic masterpiece'.

But I do have the LAPO/Mehta Varèse CD (though Richard Barrett does not rate it very highly).

And no, the answer to my V is not Vienna!

In what respect did it mean nothing to you?

I am disappointed by your two comments on the question.

They are not pleasant and the first was unhelpful/inaccurate.

... not, I think Otto Luening - nor yet Otto Joachim - and I suspect not Luigi Otto neither... praps Otto Beständig or Clarence Otto

                            Indeed not.
Nor the others you added later!

The higher ultraviolet parts of the electromagnetic spectrum are ionizing - Varese's ionisation - and the lower ultraviolet part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and the lower part of the spectrum below UV, including visible light (including nearly all types of laser light), infrared, microwaves, and radio waves are all considered non-ionizing radiation - excitation.

                              Explanation provided with good grace.

And taken in that spirit; thank you.
At one point, I thought that we had to take the letters of all three parts, jumble them up (excite them) and end up with a rhythmic (then we went percussive) masterpiece, such as Bartok's Music for SPC or Jimmy Mac's Veni Veni (and I couldn't think of anything beginning with U).
