On this, the clue was "a composer who needed a bow".
I have said since then it is a female Canadian composer who is not Coulthard.
I have also said that she sounds like she could have had as neighbours someone called Ruth and also Franks and Gabriel.
And I might add that she sounds like she could additionally have had a neighbour called Grundy.
Oh no.....I've given it to you now.
(if you take much longer, I will worry I've botched it up again)Last edited by Lat-Literal; 30-01-17, 10:29.

Is there an answer from U on this spectrum or is it still Non-U?
(If there is any late quibbling from techies reading this, I intend to make myself unavailable)Last edited by Lat-Literal; 30-01-17, 11:06.

Aha!
Violet Archer seems to fit the bill.
Combined with other segments, we seem to be heading for Ultraviolet light.
I'm not yet sure what will be on the card, and am working on the 'close to a rhythmic masterpiece'.
Flay: are you an expert on Varèse because you were planning the next poser?
If so, please carry on: solve the U and give us a nice easy V for which the answer is Varèse!

We are indeed on the UV spectrum.
Excitation occurs when the radiation excites the motion of the atoms or molecules, or excites an electron from an occupied orbital into an empty, higher-energy orbital.
Ionization/Ionisation occurs when the radiation carries enough energy to remove an electron from an atom or molecule.
The dividing line between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum falls in the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum.
Henry Cowell's modernists were Ultra modernists.
The female Canadian composer in need of a bow was Violet Archer.
And the angel of the European seventh symphony was Rautavaara's Angel of Light.
Excitation was mentioned in the clue.
Varese's Ionization/Ionisation was the work implied in the part of the clue in brackets.
And the answer is indeed Ultraviolet light.Last edited by Lat-Literal; 30-01-17, 11:23.
