Oh, 'ecki - they're all works (two operas and a "Symphony") by Kryzstof Penderecki - but that means I'll have to see what Musical connections haven't already been made for Q!

they most certainly are. I don't think Q is compulsory

          Hadn't spotted the 'composer'!

Got as far as Peter Maxwell Davies for the soundtrack to Ken Russell's The Devils, but then went out shopping (more Aldi wine required!).

Well done ferney: I'd jump the q if I were you!
I have assumed that, because this is not the Musical Association thread, not all parts have to have a musical connection.
Your hunt for glass was inspired, though, even if it did not get you anywhere.

No - there used to be a wider range of Arts topics covered in the earlier puzzles - and there has been a couple of references to George Lloyd, too.

Another possible ferney epitaph: "He was inspired, but it got him nowhere"- though usually hunting for a glass has a happier result!

As for jumping the Q - I was brung up better, so:

La Liberté; Champagne; Mercure - not an alternative Revolutionary slogan: ma Quelle?

              Nicely slipped in, stiletto-style!

Solving your new puzzle will take a lot of weeding-out of extraneous material, thanks to the existence of this ubiquitous hotel chain!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Attempting to solve the puzzle as if I hadn't set it seems pretty damn impossible, so perhaps a little extra help might be useful:

Not so much a Roi Soleil as "Oh what a circus"!

I wondered that, as Pierre Mercure was a Canadian composer, some of whose music I heard when I lived over there, as including a piece by a native composer in any concert seemed compulsory in those days.
Just checked where he was born, and also where Circle du soleil came from.......

So are we talking about a province (which happens to have a city of the same name in it, though that's not the city associated with Mercure and Circle)?

(In the time taken to type, with two interruptions, I see we are indeed in Canada. Go for it mercs!)

apologies, rather otherwise occupied now, I shouldn't have chipped in.

                          Apologies not needed.
Busy here too shortly, and in no mood to have to think of an r even if I got the other links in this question.

                          You mooted Canada first.

Not least because I have a busy couple of days coming up, and might not be around to respond.
Besides, I've been hogging the thread for a bit.
