A V to link Roland, Dimitri and John.
Is Dmitri - Shostakovich, Tiomkin, Kabalevsky or Mitropoulos or none of these?
Is Roland a forename or a keyboard instrument manufacturer or even a work by Piccini?
    Is John a C20th composer?

The only V I can think of is Variations but not why it might be!

Here's a short clue to one of the elements that may help you on your way!

        Tom Jones

Which makes John Addison but no V revelation!

John Addison/Tom Jones, plus Dimitri Tiomkin ... I hope the bloke next to me hasn't bought any popcorn .....
2 of the 3 elements that will lead you to 'V' have the same title.
Roland shares his surname with a certain Irish playwright.

You could add Anton, as long as you don't accuse me of turning into a prater.

The only Roland I can think of is Rat and Rattigan wasn’t Irish!

                To be Shaw?

He was one of those names from 60s who made middle of the road Phase 4 recordings to be played on radiograms with speakers either end in the early years of stereo!

                Still no V in sight!

                Vic Flick.

Ignorant me - I’d never heard of him but had heard him many times and have unknowingly a number of his recordings, not least 2X John Barry Seven CDs. AA continues to be a frustrating voyage of discovery!

(The) 'flicks' are of course at the heart of the question.
I had hoped that the addition of Anton (not Bruckner) would have helped - think of Switzerland and cuckoo clocks, a manhole cover, a man emerging from the deep shadow of a doorway, and a 'big wheel' on a Big Wheel.

Oh dear! The Prater is a large amusement park in V where people go for recreation - probably in smaller numbers at present. Some of them will ride on the Big Wheel where Orson Welles delivered his uncharitable assessment of democracy as practised in Switzerland.

Sorry but I don’t really do films. Never had the time, maybe I have now but I’ve lost the inclination!

                            OK .....
Roland Shaw, Dimitri Tiomkin, John Addison and Anton Karas all wrote or contributed to the score of films set in V.
These films date from, respectively, 1972, 1938, 1976 and 1949. Two of them have the same title.

Would somebody care to list the films, all of which are partly or wholly set in Vienna, thereby earning the honour(?) of setting the next poser?
