Hadn't thought of him as Italian, but I see from Wiki that he is/was:

Jean-Baptiste Lully was an Italian-born French composer, instrumentalist, and dancer who spent most of his life working in the court of Louis XIV of France. He is considered a master of the French Baroque style. Lully disavowed any Italian influence in French music of the period. He became a French subject in 1661.

Just the Italian to go. Let me know if any further clues are needed although a quick google should suffice: :
I’ve tried a fair few, obviously badly structured, Google’s ... is foglia in the title we are looking for ..... ?????

There is another Italian composer with a famous diva spouse. Later on in the century.

                            No

As I understand it the English word is used in the original title (although some of the other pieces are given in German...)

NB Encores feature in the title. That's given it away

I think I'll go and sit in the garden and read something straightforward, like A Brief History Of Time.
UPDATE: Apparently Berio wrote 6 Preludes, one of which is called Leaf. (I could pretend that I knew all along but that would be a bigger porkie than some of the stuff being churned out at the daily Coronavirus press conferences).

Must be Luciano Berio (wife Cathy Berberian)

                                no4 of 6 encores - Leaf

To which you say, Sir Velo, by 'eck that was like drawing teeth!
