What sort of Christmas might a capital city's ragtime band have?
Alexander will be having a celestial celebration.
But does Claude need all four hands to take part, or will two be enough?

What word are we looking for?
Bumping in case it's been overlooked in all the excitement of the day!

Irving Berlin wrote White Christmas and Alexander's Ragtime Band.

Alexander Scriabin's sonata no. 7 is subtitled the White Mass

Claude Debussy composed En blanc et noir for two pianos

Now, we need something Xtra special from you (though I think you're allowed to skip X, Y, and Z if needs be; maybe a host will advise/correct me).

I've been wondering if in the Debussy one player plays only white notes and the other only black ones: must Google and find out what the title means!

I cannot immediately come up with an X, so, assuming it is acceptable, I will move on to Y.

            Which Y links,

The helper of Joe and Marian

            The lover of Mary Kate

            The Book of Judges

The only thing I have come up with via googling is Yael, but don’t see any musical link there.

Make a sex change to the title of a Richard Strauss opera and you're nearly there. However, the self-styled description of a former leader of the Tory party gives it to you exactly.

                The Book of Judges

''Gee, mom, you still bake the best apple pie in Gaza.''

In the spirit of Radio 3, we are not being elitist here. High art this ain't.

Flay has identified the song. Where is it set? What type of person would have sung it? Where, today, would you most likely encounter such a person?

The noun to be changed occurs in the titles of two Strauss operas.

                      The Book of Judges

''Gee, mom, you still bake the best apple pie in Gaza.''

It was probably never said, but comes from the same school as ''Truly this man was the son of Gawd''.

The only noun I can think of which appears in two Strauss operas is "Frau" ("silent", and "without shadow") - change the sex and I can't think of anything beginning with "y"

Oh! Well I never! There's an unfinished comic opera by Strauss called The Donkey's Shadow, so that's 2 operas with "shadow" as a noun.

Not that I can change the sex of a shadow ...

"Cowboy"? In a white van not doing the building work you've paid them to do?
