Might we be talking Schoenberg, Barber, and Schuman?

By the way, is mercia OK?

His (I believe) most recent post was last Friday afternoon: perhaps he's had a week's holiday around the Bank Holiday? I hope that nothing is untoward, and that he is enjoying himself thoroughly and will be returning very shortly.

          Struggling here!
Barber wrote his Essays and made some Excursions, but I don't think that Erwartung was one of them!
I even got to wondering if they had all studied at the Eastman Rochester School of Music.
          Anyone else making any headway?

                  Double-digging is needed: two languages....

William Schuman: Awake thou wintry Earth, for clarinet and violin
Schoenberg: Friede auf Erden, Op. 13, for choir and orchestra
Barber: Strings in the Earth and Air, for voice & joanna

I'm out this evening, so if this is the correct coleslaw the F will have to be tomorrow morning (I have one gestating).

Apologies for not servicing the E - been a bit busy! Not Earth. Don't be brassed off.

I think we are talking euphonium here, then.
The following pieces were apparently specifically written including a part for, or have a part that is played on, a euphonium.
                        Schoenberg: Themes and Variations
Barber: Third Essay and Symphony 2
                        Schuman: Credendum

If correct, I willingly hand over setting the F to Flay, as I was immensely impressed by his sadly incorrect stab at the answer!

It is indeed the Euphonium - I had other works in mind for Barber and Schuman but they were both Euphoniophiles.
I look forward to Flay's F on Flora Day.

                            How appropriate!

For this person we must look northwards, when the woodbird will have a Grimm silver rose

This conundrum has an operatic theme...

Are we perhaps looking for someone who sang in Siegfried, Hansel and Gretel, and Rosenkavalier?
