Cali, perhaps Bolcom could write one for me with my pianistic skills it sound like I'm playing with two left hands! As 1 of the gang of 10 or so it's good that the AA has been rescued from oblivion and the asylum is still open!

"Bewilderbeest Inc.". Graham Chapman is perfect in that - which I had never ever seen before!!

A quiet afternoon here... sorted, thanks to the Monty Python channel

Well, until ferney does the honourable thing with his S

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Never let it be said that I never do the honourable thing. Just think it.

For this twofer S, we're looking for a patronised Musician who first appeared in my lemon drizzle cake; was fraternally supportive Despite the Firefighters' Efforts; and took a Trip to Asia all on his own.

          ++++++

Whilst chewing that over, can I suggest a couple of alterations to the Rules of the Game in order to make it more attractive to other players and less burdensome to current players? I suggest that the idea that the "winner" has to do think up and set the next puzzle is more difficult now than it was at the start, and that setting should be an open invitation to anyone who thinks up a puzzle (provided that a puzzle is not already in "progress"). And further, that we don't have to go through the Alphabet in alphabetical order - I know this may make the title rather irrelevant, but it might make things generally more attractive to a wider group of players?

Just a couple of suggestions - I won't sulk if they're rejected out-of-hand - and better suggestions would also be very welcome

Ooh - meant to say: and to open out the "topics" from the current "Classical"-based majority of puzzles (pace Cloughie's fiendish inclusivity) in order to include other Radio3 features: literature, the Arts, Drama, World Music and Jazz?

You've got the right idea - it is a "SS" you're looking for; but not Camille.

(Nor "Semprini Serenade", which will henceforth forever be associated with haemorrhoid ointment in my mind!)

                      (I'll get me white coat....)

Re your #679: I agree that the choice of the next letter could be offered to any takers. However I do feel we should continue to work up through the alphabet. Furthermore if the topics are to be widened, then the subject should be indicated by the setter.

Tempted to say Stephen Sondheim but can't match any works.

I'm with you there Flay - the alphabet should be followed - we already allow skipping Q and are flexible over X Y and Z. As to the change of topics I 'm not keen as my interest in art and literature are not as strong as music. We'll end up as bad as R3 if we dumb down just to attracted a wider audience!

Oh no; I may frequently speak - but never think - therefrom!

Yes, good point - I suggested the "any letter" idea following Pulcie's comment about having an M but not getting the L (a similar thing happened when I discovered three composers who'd been Ambulance Drivers - but everyone kept skipping Y and Z! )

I'm with cloughie, I think, having thought about it for about 6 seconds. Certainly on the alphabet. Also about broadening topics - I think, though, rather than dumbing down, that would make it all more complicated and be off-putting. It's tough enough trying to find virtuosi on the contrabass sarrusophone or the subtitle of Leif Segerstam's 582nd Symphony, without chasing after bit parts in Pinter or the nickname of Caravaggio's favourite model....

I do rather like the idea that anyone can set the 'next' puzzle... But might that not lead to deathly silences when no one has anything ready? At least at the moment, the 'winner' has a certain impetus to think of something - perhaps the next step would be, that it can be passed to someone else if the 'winner' can't tackle setting the next question and someone else says they're willing to take it over?
