Mieczyslaw Weinberg: Op 55 Ballet The Golden Key & Op 144 Opera The Idiot
Jaromir Weinberger: Operetta Jarní bouře ("Spring Storms") & The Devil in the Belfry for Violin and Orchestra
Leo Weiner: Op 5 Carnival for small orchestra & Der Traurige Hirte ("The Sad Shepherd") for Clarinet and Piano
So the word required was "Wein".
A very comprehensive answer scb! Even though Pulcie made the breakthrough I reckon the honours are yours, as well as full bonus points. So it must be over to you for an eXemplary X Or a less tAxing A if that's too eXhAusting.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

The page-loading problems that occasionally affected long threads seem to have gone away, but even so, this could be a good opportunity to start AA III as a brand new thread (but only if we start again with the letter A, though I can't imagine anyone wanting the terrible trio of X, Y, and Z!).
I have an 'X' before we move on, which links 28 (and 28a), a first piano concerto dedicated to and performed by Liszt, and an unfinished final work.
Anything to do with Xaver/Xavier? There are a helluva lot of composers called Franz Xaver something (Brixi, Hammer, MOZART fils, Neruda, Richter, Scharwenka for starters...).
Franz Xaver Scharwenka, known as Xaver, dedicated his 1st piano concerto to Liszt but it's Op32 (His Op28 is '6 Waltzes' with no sign of a 28A.)
On Amazon 28A throws up many hits for Godowsky, possibly to do with a Tchaik transcription. [EDIT Among his versions of the Chopin Studies, he has a 28 and a 28A which show up quite a bit.] He doesn't appear to be a Xaver sadly, but his '44 Var's, Cadenza and Fugue' is on the 1st theme of theUnfinished Symph.
Scharwenka and Godowsky do connect a little bit as contemporary virtuosi, and piano teachers in the US.
Not yet compelling as linkages I know but I'm doing my best, with much assistance from Google, Grove etc...

Reason: More fiddling!
