I took it to mean that the composers of the three pieces are English, French, and Italian.

The Frenchman is right but the wrong prelude. The Englishman's piece was completed after his death by a friend and fellow composer.

Our Englishman was born in the first decade of the 20th century.

The Frenchman's work has to be translated into English for the clue to work.

                  Aha!
Finzi (completed by Ferguson): The fall of the leaf.
That could give us Debussy's Feuilles mortes (Dead leaves)
But that still leaves an Italian encore.

And I'm happy for whoever finds that to March on with an M.

You edited before I was able to ask if Lief Ove Andsnes had recorded your previous suggestion, as I didn't see how it answered the clue!

My previous suggestion needed to be hidden from view before anybody spotted what I should have seen before I posted it, namely that it had nothing to do with all that we'd learned thus far.
As for 'Lief Ove Andsnes' - that's clever! Maestro Segerstam is another Leif.

Correct so far. as it goes

Just the Italian to go. Let me know if any further clues are needed although a quick google should suffice: :

                            Not La Foglia, then (##3386)?

What's the link to the other two compositions?

'Foglia' is the Italian for 'leaf'.
