OK, here we go again with a reasonably seasonal one.
Perhaps AA - III can start the next time we reach the letter A.

So, at anton's suggestion, it's an H we're looking for.

My words were written in 1534, and the tune most associated with them in 1539.
This tune was subject to variations in 1747, and made even more contrapuntal in 1956.
    Where do I come from?

    PS: Apologies.......date mistyped.

Good heavens above! A new question.

Are you sure about the first date? I seem to find 1535 as the year of publication, with writing mostly given as 1534 (with a variant of 1531 in one source).

Humble apologies.......mistyped. Should have said 1534 (according to Wiki).
Edit about to be made to original post.

But I think you know where I'm coming from.

            Indeed it does.
            Care to expand?

You might have to fight out the I with scb because of my unhelpful typo.

Happy with JSB, not so with Britten.
What do you have in mind?

Stravinsky 1956 - Britten used it in 1942!

                    What's the Britten work?
The chronology of his works I've just looked up gives A ceremony of carols and Hymn to St Cecilia as 1942 compositions, but I'm not aware of the tune being used in either of those works. Happy to be enlightened.

                    Anyway, we're there!

Himmel (or Heaven): Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her.

Words and tune attributed to Luther: 1534, 1539.
Canonic variations written by JSB in 1747, orchestrated (with additional parts) by Stravinsky in 1956.

I thought there was a link to Balulalow but I may be have my lines crossed - it was 1548!

There does indeed seem to be a Balulalow connection, but that was not the association I was looking for.

Apologies once more to scb (and any others I might have confused) for putting the wrong date in the original posting.
