    I'm inclining towards William:
    William Walton's opera The bear
William Byrd's keyboard piece The Battell (Battle)

But the zodiac has me stumped just now!

I don't think that would lead to anywhere relevant.

              Aha!
William Mathias: Zodiac trio (sounds intriguing!)

But oh dear, if I'm right I've come full circle, like the stars in the zodiac.
I combined the x, y, and z last time into axes, and indeed this whole second strand of AA kicked off with an A from me.

That's the full set. Under current rules it is your choice of X, Y, Z, or A.

                  To begin at the beginning.....

I'm looking for an A to associate with a cipher, a bondsman, and a bunch of supernatural women.

                  (Difficulty rating: 1/10!)

I had (1) Winnie the Pooh, (2) Warlock (some unknown connection with Constant Lambert and his piece "Horoscope") or Wiseman, Debbie, CFM's Composer in Residence who has produced "The Musical Zodiac", and (3) WIN for Windows (cross reference Winnie) or a war game on the computer (cross reference Warlock) - so the quick solving of the clue has happily put me out of my misery. There was a brief diversion onto several websites which claim to show what music people born under each star (sun) sign enjoy. Apparently, Sagittarians like World Music and unusual mood pieces, among other things. I could have told them that without them having to go to the trouble of drawing up elaborate charts.

                    Anyway, back on track:

I think that I have put a jinx on this poser by rating it as 1/10!

Or has everyone solved it but noone wants to set B?

Not around to respond much tomorrow.

You're on a hiding to nothing I fear.
Hope it doesn't take 4000 years to get the answer.
                            Wrong bunch of supernaturals, anton.
The poor souls in question are those of young girls who have died before their wedding days: they dance rather than charge around shrieking!

Are we looking for one person or for three with a shared name?

Three incarnations with an A name in common.
Very much along the lines of post #1, one of my trademarks.
There's a musical association in each case but only one is a composer (he of the piece featuring the spirits).
