Me and my big mouth... I seem to have far less spare time now that I am virtually retired!

It must be an age since I last posed a conundrum, so here goes:

Please fine me a P linking a chorale’s ambiguous attribution, an alarming allegory, and Agamemnon’s Aulis
    Pacta sunt servanda !!!

OK - so apparently Brahms's opus 56a/56b should possibly be called "Variations on a theme by Pleyel" rather than "ditto on a theme by Haydn" but it looks as if the jury is still out on a final decision.

"..... publishers in the early nineteenth century often attached the names of famous composers to works by unknown or lesser known composers in order to move inventory. Subsequent research has concluded that the wind piece Brahms used as a source does not fit Haydn's style. Today the wind ensemble piece remains without clear attribution."

so I think my answer is PLEYEL, Ignaz - who also had a go at the Iphegenia story in his opera Ifigenia in Aulide.

I'm actually stuck on the "alarming allegory" part of the question.

a-ha - apparently Pleyel's La Révolution du 10 août ("The Revolution of August 10") for soloists, choir, and orchestra carries the subtitle The Allegorical Alarm
