      I was hoping it might be the "scraps of paper" that showed Mozart wrote the substance of the remaining parts of the Requiem .

              Yes - "measures" is the American English for "bars". (It may be Italian or German in origin - but when I tried to ascertain this, Google kept getting referring me to drinking establishments. Based on my search history, I suppose!)
