Trains between Manchester Central and London St Pancras, via Chinley and Bakewell.
Trains between Penrith and Keswick (and beyond).
      Trains to Ripon.

I seem to remember these were rather unpleasant:

        I preferred the classic Spangles:

Enjoyable to see 'Old English Flavours' in that iconic yet oh-so-dated 70s typeface, though!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Somehow I fear that I might have said this before (and I can't be bothered to trawl through the thread to check) but I wonder when nostalgia will become "a thing that time forgot"?

Ah, who knows; one of these fine days, it might just be "trains" tout court (other than mainline expresses and city commuter ones)...

Trains between E & C ran via Galashiels and Hawick. Selkirk was on a branch line, which shut to passengers in 1951, and to goods in 1964.

As of last September, there are again trains between Edinburgh and Galashiels, so perhaps in another fifty years?

The "Search Thread" facility just above the uppermost post on each page makes it a relatively easy task to relive the faded glory of your February post to the same effect:

I somehow thought that I'd done that; apologies for repetition (I'd not do too well on JAM, obviouisly!). I do like your reference to "faded glory"; most apposite, given the thread title!

Thank you for that. I'll get it right next time.

It was a nice try, EA! You were asking for trouble!

Also M & S without piped music. I used to shop there in those days. Never in a million years now.

... I must check - but I don't think there is piped music in the various Marks & Sparks in these parts. Is it a regional thing, perhaps?

Does anybody remember the line-system that Woolworths had on the ceiling to send money and cashier rolls about the place?
