K shoes, made in Kendal, were the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn.

My goodness, yes!!! There was one in the shoe shop my mother used to take me to in High Street Ken. When we were there one day, a small boy of about my age, maybe six, came over to me and said, "Do you know that if you put your hand down where you look at your feet, you get a funny feeling?" Naturally I had to find out for myself, and on lowering most of my arm, I received the very first electric shock of my life! Presumably the charge passed across the void, and I imagine would have been a powerful one, though I was quite nonchalant about the experience afterwards, suffered no apparent after-effects, and didn't say a thing to my mother!

And those classic 'school sandals' with a flower-petal pattern of holes in the front part... Clark's stopped making them in 1972 apparently...

Oh yes. I had several pairs of these, though not all at once. And "Start-Rite" shoes, after my feet had been x-rayed, obviously.

and on the subject, that lethal fluoride treatment . Bright green fluid in a jaw shaped clamp.
I think it actually caused tooth decay.

The Long Chase with Jan Francis and Simon Turner (the latter now a big noise in the music world with a recent Novello 'original soundtrack' award) - a series which enthralled me but has never been on video, alas.

Many things mentioned here are familiar, but bells were jingled most poignantly by the above, and by reminder of lidded desks with embedded inkwells in Primary School. Round our way a writing test had to be passed before possession of the scratchy nibs was granted.

Has anybody mentioned Etch a Sketch? Its exasperating limitations were a useful introduction to existential despair I found.

As SIBELIUS progressively deteriorates in its ability to provide scores for the music I write, I'm increasingly using pens: the idea of using "dippers" appeals more and more (I have a lovely desk set, which positively invites such an option) - I might even see if I can find any quills, in honour of Ronald Stevenson! (But probably not.)
                          Ostrich quills are the best.

And why write in the sand when the sea will wash it away and when there's perfectly decent paper to use instead?!

Have you always been completely devoid of the excitement and thrill of doing something utterly pointless and useless, ahinton ... ?
