    Rain in every one

    Devon has

Spring = Rain (and the pixies come out to play if you are TQ9)
Summer = invasion of caravans .... and random rain (time to sacrifice the firstborn)
Autumn = damp (time to dance naked around a fire singing songs)
Winter = damp and rain (hide from the evil spirits)
    damp all the time

Beneath the key issue of the, ahem, precise commencement-dates of the four seasons lies the very dubious assumption that they should each last exactly 3 months and were so designed by the Deity Kinda vaguely true in these latitudes but not over most of the globe surely?

Heathen! But apart from that, it was when we collected the estate rents and hired servants. (Now we have no estate or servants).

                        ... well, some do...

And of course every schoolboy (and girl) knows about Lady Day, Midsummer Day, Michaelmas, and Christmas.

I fear you may have offended our Keltic kolleagues by not mentioning Candlemas, Whitsunday, Lammas, and Martinmas - to say nothing of Lughnasadh, Samhain, Imbolc, and Beltane.
