If one, as is one's wont, simply presumes 'no flights had been taken' how can one disprove or make any sort of informed judgement on this radical Muggletonian 'notion' and, furthermore, describe it as 'absurd', ahinton?

    Illogical, sir!

... Mamod stationary steam engines, the much-desired device which could be attached to meccano sets.

Amazing they were allowed in to the hands of teenage (or younger) boys - my brothers and I delighted in such at ages c. 8, 12, 14 -

.... and indeed other rear indicators with character:

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

My dad had a green Austin A35 van that had those. I had to bang the side of the car from the inside, in the vicinity where the the indicator arms were, or they wouldn't flip up!!!

                            Not a cricketer then Stan?

Those packets of crisps are a cricket tea staple......

Conversations with total strangers on trains.

These days you're more likely to get arrested and, in any case, most people seem to have things stuck in their ears or on phones/laptops etc telling you to keep away. Heck, I even do it myself!

I recall a lovely conversation I had with a fellow lady passenger quite a number of years ago about thematic transformation in Elgar's 1st Symphony and Mahler's 3rd. I really don't think such a thing would happen now.
