      Wow!

And Kempe was pretty good in Don Juan!!!!

My first gig was 9th May 1974, but it was a rock gig. Deep Purple at the Hammersmith Odeon, London.

Gosh, that must have been the time that Chung recorded the Bruch!

Hmmmmm...I think we need to define exactly what a 'gig' is!
In my book, it is a paid engagement for a musician.

I think Deep Purple will have been paid?
Don't you ever do free gigs? (I seem to be doing rather a lot of them at the moment)

                But was Beefy paid?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

But we professional audience members go to gigs too - they are 'paid engagements'.... we do the paying!

                    GASP!!

I was there too. I was at Madeley College of Education at the time, doing my PGCE. It wasn't my first concert, but was truly memorable, being one of only two visits to the superb Victoria Hall.

                      WOW!!

My soon to be 18 year old self was seated with my father in the centre of the very front row right under Kempe's feet. Unforgettable evening.

I saw him in '72 - Weber Konzertschtuck, Bruckner 5 (RPO, RFH). I saw Kyung Wha Chung play the Bruch SF in '72, but it was with the Previnettes

Oh yes - the men's underwear pages were particular favourites of mine.

Is that the prelude to an arranged marriage?
