Reminds me - do they still make Signal toothpaste? Or Gibbs SR? Or tooth powder?
TBH I don't know, not having used any of those particular brands. But I do mourn the passing of Mentadent toothpaste, having discovered it in the early 1980s. It had the same flavour as the pink mouthwash that used to be offered at dentists, but is likewise no more - I think they use Listerine these days, which undiluted tastes like TCP.
The last time I managed to find Mentadent was 2 months ago, and, having searched everywhere else, only in the megasized Tescos, which has now also ceased to stock it - a wasted 6-mile cycle ride.
My theory that once I stop buying a particular product, if only for a week, it disappears forever from the shelves, proves my indispensability to retail choice again and again.

My experience is slightly different. If I really like something (in the sweets, chocolates, cakes or biscuits line mostly) It will swiftly disappear from the shelves owing to lack of demand

Didn't they rather shoot themselves in the foot by calling it "Mentadent P"? I mean - the number of people who would actively want to brush their teeth inP must put profits into jeopardy!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
...and re Werthers...too slippy, I don't trust them unless I have someone practised in the Heimlich Manoeuvre standing by. But Licorice C&B...yum! whaur's ma fillin's!

You're not wrong about Werthers, john, but I was never a great fan of licorice toffee, or anything other than just straight licorice.
These little "Lion" licorice tablets are the best, which I used to buy in the '70s by the bagful on Huddersfield market with my Granny...
But this is happily totally off topic - they have not been forgotten by time e.g. they are available by the enormous boxful on Amazon !!!
I mustn't I mustn't I mustn't (although I did a couple of years ago )

the romans used it to wash clothes, but yes, a step too far to use it instead of Signal.
( which I always insisted on as a kid, due to its wonderful colour combo.)
