Despite my low opinion of the whole system, I am pleased to see Radu Lupu getting recognition. And while being opposed to league tables and suchlike, Lupu must be among the very greatest living pianists. Certainly, along with Rubinstein, the most memorable I have seen in person.
Having seen his wonderfully grumpy demeanour in concerts, I wonder how he will react to the Buckingham Palace ceremony.
