As I wrote upthread, I wouldn't mind visiting Dundee for the cake.

Then there's the jam, journalism (and formerly jute), computer games, Desperate Dan, RRS Discovery, HMS Unicorn, Caird Hall, Mills Observatory, McGonagle's Tay Bridge (well, the replacement!), two football clubs not only in the same league but same street, the glorious Broughty Ferry ... and I bet mangerton could name quite a few more!

      Aye, it's a bonnie wee toun ...

Thanks PGT for that encomium on my adopted city. As you say, Dundee no longer has jute manufacture, but it does have the Verdant Works, aka the Scottish Jute Museum, well worth a visit. In addition, building work is proceeding apace at the waterfront on a new railway (not train) station, and the V and A Museum of Design.

        And it's Scotland's sunniest city!

...a wee drive up the Law Hill for a glorious panorama of the Firth of Tay *; then drop into the fairly recently renovated McManus Gallery which has a great feel about it; and finish it all with a pint in the 'Speedwell'** up the Perth Road.

          * Pleasant weather guaranteed

It certainly is. We take good care to disguise it by having lots of rain too.

aka Mennies, of course. A great pub, still very much as it was in its Edwardian days.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Its not like Bristol, FF, where the unis have to compensate for the epic underachievements of City and Rovers to bring the city some self respect.

BTW, have you been chatting with MrGG at all?

                      mackays. yum.
                      My favourite.

And talking of food, are the tins of quality street smaller this year? £4 in most places, I think they are smaller though.

Here's a nice place to visit on a day off, AH.

Sadly not, AG, A holiday in Cleethorpes remains on my bucket and spade list.

But the internet brings places like teeside airport station just a little closer.

Might make into a good thread, " things you would like to do".

I always fancied going on one of those "special " trains like Sherlock Holmes used.

I've always thought it would be nice to stay at home at Christmas. As a still single lass Christmas always means travelling back to the family in Hertfordshire.
For the most part I am happy to be single but most years on Christmas Eve I feel a slight ache that I still haven't met Mr Right. The feeling passes quite quickly and I always feel Christmas Day is special. I know I am getting a few CDs this year so unwrapping and playing them will doubtless give great pleasure.

As a still (and likely to be remain) single lad, I feel that slight ache every New Year's Eve but it passes quickly here too. Fortunately, I've got a great support network of friends and family but am happy with my own company. All of my sibling's marriages have crashed so I consider I've been lucky and it's surprising how many times I've been told by people that they envy the freedom I have. 61 and not a single grey hair yet!

Family are very important at Christmas time and with two brothers living close by (a third is abroad) and a sister a few doors away it's good that we all get on so well. It'll be a great Christmas with them.
