    Who said that?

A thread to post quotes from people connected with all things to do with music that are amusing, interesting, funny, whatever. Including real, imagined and reported quotes!

    I'll kick off with this...............

    Who said,

"I am not a fascist......I hate Tchaikovsky and will not conduct him. But if the audience want him, it can have him"

    Boulez.

"I eat only white foods: eggs, sugar, grated bones, the fat of dead animals; veal, salt, coconut, chicken cooked in white water; fruit mold, rice, turnips; camphorated sausage, dough, cheese (white), cotton salad, and certain fish (skinless)."

Well, it reads like Satie, but I don't actually recognise it.

Yes, Boulez apparently. During his first full season at the New York Philharmonic when audiences turned, and did not like his modern programming - including Elliott Carter's 'Concerto For Orchestra' and the first performance of Varese's 'Amerique' in 46 years!
