It started with clearing the roof space to enable better insulation
The clutter in our loft is the insulation!

I kept all the back numbers of Gramophone for decades, until I realised I never referred to them and they were clogging up my garage. So I advertised them for sale in a small ad in the back of the magazine for seventeen quid, buyer collects - effectively free, since that was the price of the ad. There were no takers, so they all went in the recycle bin. I now pass last month's issue to a local hifi shop, who like to read the equipment reviews. The garage looks just as cluttered, but now its different clutter.

Perhaps some honourable members would find it useful to consider spending their amazon vouchers (other retailers are available) on acquiring this...

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

When I was downcluttering, i made loads of shelf space by throwing out copies of that and similar books given to me by well meaning relatives.

( edit: 3 million sold. tells its own story.......)
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

It looks most interesting, but I'm not sure that I have much room for any more books.

A lady friend, on visiting me for the first time, remarked with no further ado that it was obvious, from the untidy state of my premises, that I could not possibly be gay. Thanked for the recognition, but further pressed on the evidence that had led her to this conclusion, she said ruefully, "Well, that's the sad irony about gay men: they're always the tidiest, the best-lookers, they have the best taste in clothes, and they are the most knowledgeable about furnishing and interior decorating"!

Nothing like a bit of gender stereotyping, to break the ice.

That's not gender stereotyping, it's sexuality stereotyping!

...but either way, if there's ice breaking (with or without Tippett), one might reasonably hope that a decent gin and some tonic are not far away...

Well, even assuming that I ever had any (and I suppose that I must have done), I probably cleared these out while the ink was still wet on them, but then I never could get myself involved in school without risking getting myself into trouble (like when I was finally found out for having given aural training and harmony/counterpoint lessons to the sixth form music A level set as best I could when I was a year of three below them because no one else seemed to be doing this).

One of my throwing out binges on several occasions years ago was of music that I'd written that was unutterable c**p and it was always good to do this kind of thing because of what I didn't discard (although I once chucked away a piano trio of which I've subsequently regretted disposing)...
