"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
I agree. Nothing to say. Not often I start the day with tears streaming down my face.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
Terrible, shocking events. There are not the words.
No, indeed there are not - so the best that I feel that I can do is eacho wholeheartedly the expressions of everyone in this thread about these appalling events in that great country.
What, I'd really rather not try to wonder, would Delius, who chose to make his home not far from Paris and who had earlier written Paris, A Night Piece: The Song of a Great City, have made of these terrible actions? - a most grievous affront not only to all Parisians and all French people everywhere but also to all humanity...
RIP all those who perished there in the horrors of last night...
I know it's just a journalistic phrase, but wish they would refer to the events as the "news" rather than the "story". Tragic.
To the extent that one might reasonably interpret the term "news" in this context to denote reportage of actual events but the term "story" as something that has emerged from the expression of someone's imagination, I'm entirely with you here; that said, what happened is indeed the former and a tragedy of unimaginable proportions senselessly perpetrated by people who can and will never win anything for anyone - including themselves - by their actions.

Spot on Alistair! How many were involved? Not enough to fill a primary school classroom! Sadly, I've seen and heard it all so many times before.
There's nothing significant in broad terms whatsoever other than for those who tragically have been impacted. We gag the news - and march on!
