Yes, thanks very much. I would prefer not to get further involved in that discussion on this thread or any other really.

Let us all try to keep to positive personal firsts on this one.

It just struck me that Lats introduced a magnificent idea - sharing what we're doing that's new to us; how we defy the acceleration of time and defy the racing of the years - and, in response to "What are we doing for the first time?" we get a conversation about new ways of having our ears cleaned! Alpie suggests a more positive topic - I mean building his own canoe, folks; pioneering spirit an' all that (not to mention practical - popping over to York for the shopping in the floods) - but, no: we want to stick with the ear wax. Hey! I had my first colonoscopy back in June - whoop-di-doo! (Things are looking up.)

Sometimes the Forum lives up to Zucchini's ideas about it - makes me want to throw in the towel and text my vote for Katie to Strictly.

Now that the thread has gone a bit "not as anticipated" I am going to re-post this one because in my head it is my new GP. I have seen her six times seen August and have totally landed on my feet, having arrived there in a state of bewilderment. If anyone can get me onto the next notch it will be her because she is the GP who is right for me in the way that no GP has ever been before. I'm staggered by her hard work, her knowledge, the time she gives, her explanations, her personal endorsement, her caring tone, her practicality, her dismissal of the "silly" Government, her humanity and her charm. She can't wave a magic wand but my God she's good and a really beautiful person. She always uplifts me.

(She also has the same facial expression of - I am not quite sure what to call it - light cheek which I really like in the overall sensible mix)

amazing pictures of the canoe, EA. very impressive indeed.

( and I see you can catch up on the laundry whilst messing about with boats).

Edit: Those big clips would be great for mending shoes.

Glad you've found a good GP who has time for you, Lats. Let's drop this now.

Funny how we've got distracted groaning about otitis on this thread, and distracted talking about Titus Groan on another!

                  I'll get me white coat...

                    Seconded!

I've always fancied making a coracle. Mind you I would look stupid paddling it in the local pond!

I really want to contribute to this thread, but I've found I've done everything at least twice, or not at all. Is it me, or is the thread topic flawed?

Well, I don't think the topic's flawed. Trouble is, as you get older there are (probably) fewer and fewer 'firsts' to celebrate.

I used the word somnambulatory a few days ago. I'm pretty sure that was a first for me.

Anyway, I've just posted without a typo; that might not be a first but it sure feels like one!

It has gone in completely the opposite direction to the one I anticipated and is mirroring the modern negative emphasis in the media. In the OP, I should have referred to first time achievements rather than activities. I will significantly edit some of my posts and it might be quite helpful if overt references to serious illnesses could be removed from posts.
