    Radio 3 and burning rubber

This Saturday featured a day at Brands Hatch, very agreeable it was too, spectating half-way up the hill to Druids hairpin, with the very convenient Hailwood bar/restaurant allowing rest and refreshment just between watching trackside and prowling round the paddock. You can sit at one of the tables outside the restaurant and still watch cars flying round Paddock Hill bend, one of the great racing corners of the world, over coffee...

But inside, with slightly reduced noise and smell from the track, imagine the surprise of finding that emanating from the TV screens (see far wall)

    was this

It was good having a cooked brunch shortly after that with the Trifonov Pag-Rhap 'Disc of the Week' playing in the background...

    Civilised.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

    Brilliant.

Why are they making them drive over coffee?quite dangerous on a bend.

Anyway, great pics, sounds like an excellent day.

Incidentally, are you suggesting that daytime R3 is Formulaic?

    Groan, I'll get my leathers.....

Ah! Takes me back to 1984, unfortunately. (I wrote off my three month old Porsche coming down from Druids into Graham Hill bend on a track day. )

... hope you were ok, Don? (Was your concentration broken by a controversial remark on the edition of Interpretations on Record which was no doubt booming from the Motorola in your car? )

This will remind you more: you can see towards the left hand side on the infield grass an abandoned car of someone who came a cropper near the location of your mishap...

I was fine - just wanted to go round again and get it right next time! Can't remember the radio being on. Perhaps, a la Stig, I had 'Teach yourself German' for the unlikely event (I thought) that I would need new parts.

Now you've opened an old wound, I'll dig out a picture in due course (of the car, not the wound!)
